Country Cottage in Picardie between Paris and Reims
On the Champagne border, an hour from Paris
This traditional Picardie cottage is on the edge of a country village, about 5 km from Chateau-Thierry on the Champagne border, 55 km from Reims (30 minutes on the A4) and an hour from Paris. Channel ports and beaches along the coast (Calais, Le Touquet, Dieppe) are roughly 3 hours from the property. The house has 1600 m2 of land (600 m2 of garden in the front, 1000 m2 at the back of the cottage).
Chateau-Thierry is a large town with all the shops, supermarkets, markets, banks and hospitals, restaurants, entertainments and general facilities you would expect, including a train station with frequent connections to Paris. The vineyards produce champagne quality wine. There is an 18-hole golf course close by and an aero club. Disneyland Paris is 30 minutes.
The village is small, quiet and full of charm, where there is a quality of life. There is a creche in the village and a choice of other schools (primary and grammar schools) serviced by school buses. The boulangerie is within walking distance and the post office is 2 minutes by car.
Situated at the end of the village on a quiet, no through road, the house is in good overall condition. It comprises an entrance hall leading to a bathroom, a wc, a fitted kitchen and a large living room and dining room with a fireplace. The master bedroom (25m2) with en suite shower room is on the ground floor.
Upstairs are three further bedrooms (25m2, 15m2 and 15m2 respectively), one of which has a fitted wardrobe along one wall.
The house has a garage for one car plus storage space and 3 cellars, one of which has been newly built under the garage. Two barns, both 60 m2, are attched to the side of the house and could be restored into further living space. The roof on the barn is new.
