The Area
Set at the foot of the famous Galibier Pass, Valloire reveals its many charms throughout the 17 hamlets that form the ski area and the resort has managed to combine architecture and ski facilities in harmony with local life and the natural surroundings. International ice sculpture and snow sculpture contests take place in the 2nd and 3rd weeks in January. An encounter with nature: Guided snow shoe walks can be arranged to many hamlets on packed-down trails, or through the forest, watching for chamois or simply enjoying the peace and beauty of the ‘great white desert’. Every day, a network of free shuttle bus services provide regular transport links via the hamlets as follows: - Valloire centre to ‘Hameau du Col’ (round-trip) - Valloire centre to ‘Hameau des Verneys’ (round-trip) - In addition, a free mini train runs regularly every day serving the village centre.
