Welcoming Bed & Breakfast with pool in the South West of France
Saint Goin between Navarrenx and Oloron Ste-Marie, Pyrenees Atlantique
Three comfortable en-suite rooms B&B. Dinner available on request.

Number 10

Number 10 is an elegant Maison de Maitre dating from the 1800's and provides a comfortable base for your holiday here. Most of all, Magda and Richard, your Anglo-Australian hosts, want you to relax and make yourselves at home during your stay.

Number 10 is situated in the small village of Saint Goin midway between the medieval towns of Oloron Sainte-Marie and Navarrenx. There is off road parking and cover for bicycles.

The area has long been a favourite destination and the British discovered the city of Pau and its pleasant weather as long ago as the 1800’s. Scots were responsible for Europe’s oldest golf course in dating from 1856. While in the Belle Époque, visitors from many countries came to enjoy all the area had and still has to offer.

Today the region still attracts many tourists from the world over who come to enjoy a vast choice of things to do and see - why don't you come and join them.

Choose one of three charming rooms:
Chambre Tourmalet has an original marble fireplace, seating and a view of the mountains. The comfortable king size bed is perfect for a good nights sleep and your en-suite has fluffy towels and a walk-in shower.

From Chambre Aspin windows you look over the garden or across to the Pyrenees. This spacious room has twin beds while in the well-equipped bathroom there is both a bath and separate shower.

In Chambre Portillion there is another original marble fireplace together with somewhere to sit while you relax and make a cup of tea or coffee. Its en-suite has a large bath perfect for a relaxing soak after a busy day.

To make yourself at home, in addition to your bedroom, there is a comfortable lounge where you can relax on your return. If you feel like a glass of wine we have the glasses and bottle opener ready, together with a selection of leaflets, guide books and maps to help you choose where to go and what to see.

Your continental breakfast is served each morning either in the dining room or garden. There will be croissants, pain au chocolat and bread fresh from our local boulangerie with butter and jams, yoghurt, compotes and fresh fruit, served with fruit juice and a choice of tea, fresh coffee or hot chocolate.

If you would like to join us for a meal in the evening, we offer dinner or a BBQ by prior arrangement - just so we have time to do the shopping and prepare!

In the garden the swimming pool is there for a cooling dip or just to sit by and enjoy time in the sun. Here too you will find a table and chairs should you want to have a picnic or your own BBQ and we have everything you need from plates and cutlery to glasses and openers.

The Area

There is a vast choice of sporting activities nearby.
Walking and hiking - a wonderful area to discover on foot. Whether local walks or one of the major GR routes and Number 10 is itself on GR78
Fishing - the local river, Gave d'Oloron, has excellent fishing and Navarrenx has hosted the World Salmon Fishing Championship for many years.
Golf - there are several courses locally to play a round including an excellent one near Navarrenx.
Cycling - tackle the well known Cols visited by the Tour de France each year or just peddle along the valleys and gentle rolling roads of the piedmont. If mountain bikes are your thing, there are plenty of trails and often the ski lifts will take you and your bike up into the mountains.
Motor sport - Pau annually hosts a mini Monaco around its streets, for both Formula 3000 and historic cars.
Horses - you can choose to go riding or be a spectator and have a flutter at the races at Pau or Dax. Pau also hosts one of only six 4* three day events in the world.
Winter sports - the nearby resorts, such as La Pierre St Martin, offer both down hill and cross country skiing as well as snow shoeing or dog sledding.
Water sports - the Atlantic coast offers both safe swimming and world class surfing. While near Orthez you can swim in the lake. There is also rafting, canoeing and kayaking.

Other sports for the adrenalin junkie include - rock climbing; paint balling, zip lining, parachute jumping and go-karting.
While at a slightly slower pace you could chose to play tennis or take a hot air balloon trip for a different view of the glorious countryside.

The region offers a huge choice of places to visit and things to do. The mountains need no introduction as the Pyrenees are simply stunning and offer much in addition to sporting activities. If you are not feeling energetic you can let the train take the strain on the Petit Train d'Artouste, reputed to be the highest train in Europe. Alternatively head high up into the mountains and visit the Pic du Midi observatory for stunning views both winter and summer.

The cosmopolitan city of Pau has much to offer visitors from its chateau and the birthplace of Henry IV, parks and gardens to great shopping with plenty of cafes and restaurants. For something different you can visit it by taking the small train from nearby Oloron Sainte-Marie.

The pretty bastide towns and villages so typical of the region are a delight to discover. Navarrenx which was awarded Plus Beau Village status in 2014 is a fine example. It is a pleasure to while away time here where in addition to its history, described on plaques throughout the town, it is home to many artisans and has a choice of restaurants to sample.

In Oloron Sainte-Marie you can follow one of several walking routes to discover all it has to offer. While a little further afield are Sauveterre de Bearn and Salies de Bearn both of which deserve a visit.

The elegant resorts of Biarritz and St Jean de Luz on the coast make a pleasant day out. Spain is so close you can visit whether just for a tapas lunch or to spend a day in San Sebastian.

The catholic shrine of Lourdes is nearby as is St Jean Pied de Port, where many join the Comino trail to Santiago de Compostella.
