The cottage is within walking distance of the small hamlet of Calorguen, which has a bakery, grocer and bar. About 5 km further on is Léhon, its abbey gardens and a restaurant. Just after Léhon is Dinan and a large choice of shops and cafes, creperies and restaurants.
Evran is a small village beside the Ile et Rance canal about 5 minutes from here, easily reached by car or bicycle, or on foot. The L'étang de Bétineuc, a is large lake nearby with a sandy beach, shops and cafes. We are about 50 km from Rennes (train station and airport), 30 km from Saint Malo and 45 minutes from Mont Saint Michel. The nearest beach is 25 minutes from here.
The cottage is in a peaceful spot, quite independent of the main farmhouse and has been totally restored and furnished with comfort in mind.
The kitchen is fully equipped and plates, glasses, a cafetiere, kettle and toaster are provided. There is a small hallway and a toilet under the stairs. The utility room has a washing machine and dryer, sink and freezer.
The dining room opens into the salon and a high chair is provided. The salon has television and dvd and a large corner sofa.
Upstairs are three bedrooms. The first has two single beds that can be made into a double bed, plus a folding camp bed if needed and a shower room and toilet.
The second room, above the kitchen has a double and a single bed, a shower room and toilet, a small study area, armchair, wifi internet connection and a telephone.
The third room has two single beds (or one double), an armoire wardrobe and an ensuite bathroom with bath.
The garden is fenced and shady and has two garages, one with an interior barbecue. Garden table and chairs, a parasol, sunbeds, and table tennis are provided. The swimming pool is covered and heated, so can be used all year round.
We run a dairy farm here and welcome children to come along and see the animals.
The village has tennis courts that are there for anyone to use and within 10 minutes, is a base where you can hire canoes and also swim and fish. The tow path along the Canal d'Ile de Rance that runs past the locks is good for cycling and walks.
In Léhon, an ancient village just south of Dinan, a palm tree in the middle of the geometrically laid out gardens in the ruined cloister of the abbey is one of several enchanting sights in the village. The town of Lamballe famously champions the Breton horse breeding programme and has an enormous 19th century stud in the centre. And at Pleudihen, you can visit a well laid out Pomme et Cidre museum to learn how traditional Breton farm cider is made Château de Caradeuc, built in 1723, is worth a detour, if only to see the outrageous garden ornaments.
Dinan has a lovely winding street lined with timber frame houses that links the port down by the Rance river to the old town above, still surrounded by the medieval ramparts that are the town's glory. The greatest pleasure though, is simply wandering around streets and squares packed with history. Apport is the main shopping boulevard and there is a market every Thursday morning.
Dinan is also packed with restaurants; the Relais des Corsaires at the port is particularly recommended for seafood, Le Restaurant Cantobery is a favourite and has delicacies like jugged rabbit with ginger and spices and potted shrimp, La Courtine has an excellent local reputation, Crêperie Le Connétable in the old town is a popular place for crêpes.
