Holiday Homes In France
Cheerful Bed & Breakfast between Lyon and Beaujolais
Francheleins in the Saône and Dombes Valley of the Ain
3 double rooms or family rooms with bathrooms
La Cerisaie B&B
The house is well situated in a small hamlet not far from the A6 Paris/Lyon route and set in a quiet rambling garden.
We have three large rooms with bathrooms that comfortably accommodate one or two people, two of which, can easily be made into family rooms with or without children, or for friends travelling together. There is fast WiFi Internet connection and secure covered parking for cars and bicycles.
Breakfast is generous with home-made or local jams, croissants and bread and served on the terrace or in the dining room, depending on the season. We are lucky enough to be in a part of France that is famous for its food and there are several recommended restaurants within a short drive.
We also have a small, fully equipped kitchen on the covered terrace where guests can make light lunches and snacks.
Francheleins is close to the Dombes, an unspoiled area of a thousand small lakes and a wildlife reserve that is ideal for cycling and walking ( we have two bikes available on request). Opposite are the Beaujolais hills dotted with famous wine villages set amongst the vines; a good place to stop for lunch perhaps and sample the wine (Macon is 30 minutes from here).
We will be happy to advise on vineyards, restaurants and local places of interest.
La Cerisaie has been recently entirely renovated in a modern style incorporating many of the original features, with comfort and well being in mind, which is reflected in the bedrooms and bathrooms. All the
bathrooms have a large Italian shower. The family rooms have a double bed and two single beds. An extra bed and cot can be provided on request. Two of the rooms open directly into the garden and therefore have their own entrance.
Sit under the cherry trees or on one of the terraces with a book and a coffee or a glass of wine, or make a picnic in the kitchen to take on a day out. The garden is yours to enjoy.
Maps and guides are provided for rambling and cycling locally and others for the Beaujolais hills. There are riding stables nearby and two reputable golf courses within 20 minutes (The Bresse and the Gouverneur). Anyone can spend a day fishing in one of the lakes in the Doubes (permit available at the local Tourist office).
Lyon is only 45 minutes from here, a city famous for its food, history and ancient architecture and for various events through the year; the Festival of Lights in December, the Dance Festival in September, the Electronic Music Festival in June and so on.
Closer to home and worth a visit is Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne, a medieval village with a good market on Saturday in the old covered market halls and in the streets, Bourg-en-Bresse is another. The Château de Fléchères at Farins dates from the 17th Century and is designed in the style of an Italian villa. In the medieval city of Pérouges, you can try a very local tarte au sucre and Cerdon wine.
Definitely worth visiting are some of the Beaujolais wine villages: Juliénas, Morgon, Beaujeu, Saint-Lager to taste and buy wine straight from the producers themselves.
