Our house is in the peaceful little village of Gibourne about 30 km from both Cognac and Saintes.
We have one double room Bed and Breakfast with a bathroom and a private hallway with a small sitting area. Ideal as a base for a few days break, to relax, play golf, do some cycling, fish, see the area, eat well and enjoy a glass of cognac, or as a stop-over on the way to and from the South.
Local restaurants we can recommend are: Le Scorlion in St Jean d'Angély, Le Chêne Vert in Chagnon and Le Pilori in Thors. We will be happy to help and advise with anything you need to know.
La Rochelle, Royan and the vast Atlantic beaches are roughly an hour’s drive, Angoulême is about 45 minutes and Bordeaux is 90 minutes from here.
The guest room is on the first floor, accessed via a private corridor and furnished in a contemporary country style. The bathroom has a vanity unit, shower and heated towel rail with a separate toilet. A hairdryer is provided. There is also a small sitting area.
A cot can be provided on request and a fold-up bed suitable for a child age 2 to 6 years can also be provided.
Breakfast is served in the dining room downstairs. A private terrace in the garden is reserved for our guests and there is private parking.
Golf, tennis, riding, cycling, rambling and river fishing are all possible locally.

The Charente-Maritime is a peaceful, sunny land of green meadows, sandy beaches and pine forests, romantic marshlands, scattered towns and villages and Romanesque churches overlooking a landscape of cognac vineyards. The towns of Cognac and Saintes are half an hour's drive away. The delightful medieval town of La Rochelle with its harbourside cafes and shops, and the gorgeous sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast, are roughly an hour's drive from here.
The Ile d'Oléron, linked by a bridge from Marennes, makes a wonderful day out and takes you into another world. Well known for its oyster beds, the island has enormous unspoiled charm and splendid beaches. The Ile de Ré is another island near La Rochelle, scattered with whitewashed houses covered in roses with sandy beaches and hidden coves around the coast. The little roads that cross the island have been designed specifically with cyclists in mind.
Bordeaux, well known for its world famous wines and lively cultural life, is just over an hour away.
Other local attractions include Futuroscope, the science and technology park near Poitiers and La Palmyre Zoo, voted European Zoo of the year.
