Family Holiday Home with private pool in Gascony, South West France
Labastide d’Armagnac, between Bordeaux, Dax and Biarritz
4 bedrooms, sleeps up to 8 persons

Lasgraves

Our self catering holiday home, Lasgraves, is situated in Gascony, today part of the Aquitaine region of South West France. This large family home with enclosed private gardens and pool, is just 120 kms south of Bordeaux and some 100 kms east of Biarritz. To the North lies Bordeaux with its fine wine areas and rich traditions. To the East is the rolling countryside of the Midi Pyrenees. To the South, the majestic Pyrenees and the Pays Basque region. To the West, the Cote d'Argent, golden beaches, Biarritz, St Jean de Luz and the pine clad forests of Les Landes.

Our Gascon heritage provides the best of good food, wine and a warm welcome. Explore tradition at local fetes, markets, artisan fairs, exhibitions and protected sites. All outdoor pursuits are catered for, golf, sailing, fishing, riding, lake swimming and much more. Above all, enjoy the peace and tranquillity in this unspoilt corner of rural France.

Lasgraves is situated in a peaceful, rural location some 3 kms from the 13th century bastide village of Labastide d'Armagnac, surrounded by agricultural land (maize, sunflowers) and pine/oak forest. The house is enclosed by fences and hedges and has a large garden for children’s games and relaxation. It is some 1.5 kms from any main road but close to country byways for walking and exploring. A chemin verte (green road), closed to vehicular traffic, passes close by enabling cycling and rambling.

Lasgraves is a fully restored Gascon house of considerable character and style. It is of traditional stone and mortar construction featuring oak beams, and light, airy rooms, all typical of the area and period. The accommodation comprises a fully fitted kitchen, dining-breakfast room, a large sitting room with open fireplace, four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large terrace with a sun canopy and enjoys the benefit of a private 8 metre circular swimming pool, all in just over half an acre of gardens.

The fully fitted kitchen has a dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, washing machine and a comprehensive inventory ensures a home from home feeling. The dining - breakfast room overlooks the garden and pool. The large sitting room with its open fireplace has French windows opening onto the gardens and canopied terrace. A bathroom equipped with a bath with shower over, bidet and wash basin, together with a separate W.C. completes the ground floor accommodation.

On the first floor, two double bedded bedrooms are complemented by two twin single bedded bedrooms, together with a further bathroom comprising shower, wash basin and W.C. A baby's cot is available on request.

All modern facilities for indoor and outdoor living are provided including outdoor tables, chairs, sun-loungers, parasols, BBQ etc. The pool is 8 metres in diameter and has a uniform depth of 1.15 metres, is fitted with a security alarm and is cleaned and maintained daily. Please note however we do not provide any supervisory services and therefore pool safety, particularly with regard to children, is entirely your responsibility.

The Area

The house is 3 kms from the small medieval village of Labastide d'Armagnac, a 13th century Gascon bastide. The centrepiece of the village is the Place Royale. Elegant arcades surround the Place Royale, which, in the Summer months, hosts many leisure and cultural activities such as antiques, crafts and artisan fairs, local produce markets, exhibitions or evening events arranged with candlelit tables, music and dancing.

The village offers local shopping facilities together with a doctor and chemist. The local towns of St Justin, Villeneuve de Marsan, Cazaubon and Eauze provide their own splash of local colour with their own markets, fetes and cultural activities.
Labastide d'Armagnac is also situated in the Bas Armagnac area and is home to some of the best producers of the internationally renowned A.O.C Gascon brandy, Armagnac. Many of these producers offer tours, exhibitions and most certainly tastings, which are not be missed.

Close by are many other facilities to enjoy including several excellent restaurants, museums, and tours. Outdoor activities including horse riding, fishing, water skiing, canoeing, cycling, tennis, walking and golf are all available locally.

Further afield, to the North lies Bordeaux with its old town and famous wine producing areas of Medoc, St Emilion, Sauternes and Cognac to name but a few. To the West lies the Cote d'Argent with miles of golden sand with inland pools with life guards or wild Atlantic breakers for surfing. The coastal towns of Biarritz and St Jean de Luz offer elegant shops, restaurants, boat tours, fishing trips. To the East lies the Midi Pyrenees with miles of rolling countryside and market towns. To the South lie the Pyrenees, the Spanish border and the Pays Basque providing spectacular scenery, mountain railways, and restaurants all with their own unique culture.
Between all of these lies the pine clad countryside of Les Landes, most of which is protected Natural Park status, offering walking, picnicking, museums and preserved Gascon heritage sites and vast Atlantic beaches.

On a culinary note, the local area is famous for foie gras (duck liver), confit de canard (duck conserved in its own fat), maigret de canard (grilled duck breast), poulet Landais (chicken as chicken is supposed to taste), garbure (a rich Gascon soup), sanglier (wild boar), palombes (wild pigeon), tourtieres (a light pastry dessert with plums or apples and Armagnac), plus all the fruits, vegetables, crepes and patisserie you would expect from such a gastronomic area of France.

The Atlantic coast offers seafood aficionados all the delights of fruits-de-mer, including lobster, langoustine, oysters, prawns together with a wide variety of fresh fish. Local wines include Tursan, Madiran, Saint Mont, Chalosse with the ever popular Bordeaux and St Emilion in evidence everywhere.

The Office de Tourisme located in the Place Royale of Labstide d'Armagnac will be very happy to advise on local attractions and facilities and will help with bookings if required.
