Holiday Homes In France
Relaxing Gite Cottage with pool in the Tarn-et-Garonne, Midi Pyrenees
Valeilles, near Villeneuve-sur-Lot, on the Lot-et-Garonne border
1 double bedroom, sleeping 2 people + sofa bed.
Perfectly situated on the edge of the charming little village of Valeilles on the border of the Tarn-et-Garonne and the Lot-et-Garonne in South West France, is our home, ‘Casteljaloux'. Built in about 1820, Casteljaloux is a pretty, stone farmhouse set in three acres, surrounded by plum orchards and rolling hills. Turn left and head towards the Tarn-et-Garonne or right to explore the Lot-et-Garonne, both have much to offer. The area is steeped in history and dotted with medieval towns and villages, well worth visiting. Five minutes from us, is Penne d'Agenais where Richard-the-Lionheart built a hilltop fortified village that has stunning uninterrupted views. You can even lie in bed in the gite and see from the window, the beautiful domed church set at the top of Penne d'Agenais.
We are 20 minutes drive away from the market town of Villenueve-sur-Lot. Fumel is also only 20 minutes away, where you will find the famous Bonaguil Castle, one of the premier historic sites in France. Our nearest Village is Dausse, where you can find a shop selling fresh bread and a small supermarket that carries most essential things. There is also a hairdresser and a small restaurant. In the summer months, Dausse has a weekly nocturnal market, where you will have the chance to sample local produce, dance to good music and mix with locals and visitors. There are weekly markets on different days of the week in local villages such as Libos, Montaigu-de-Quercy and many others, as well as a large one on Saturday mornings in Villenueve.
Our gite is a beautifully converted dairy, which is detached from our home, offering 60 sqm of wonderfully light accommodation for 2 people. It comprises one double bedroom and a exceptionally spacious open plan lounge/kitchen that includes a sofa bed. There is a good size, separate shower/toilet and the kitchen area is fully equipped with everything needed including a fridge, cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle. A washing machine is available. All bedding and towels are included, a hairdryer is available and there is television, WiFi Internet connection, a CD/radio cassette player and DVDs. We also have a good selection of books.
Outside is a patio barbecue area, where you can enjoy relaxing with a glass of wine taking in the beautiful views all around Casteljaloux and experience breathtaking sunsets over Penne d'Agenais. We have a lovely new pool with Roman end steps for easy access, which is maintained daily. There is table tennis and we have plans for a boules court.
Our gite is also available for a minimum of 2 nights including breakfast supplied to you in the privacy of the gite. Convenient for people on the move wanting to tour the different areas of France in a relaxed atmosphere, hassel free.
Spoil yourself: massage and beauty treatments, whilst staying with us on vacation. You can treat yourself to a (very affordable) deep tissue massage, pedicure, facial, manicure and other beauty treatments in the privacy of the gite.
Our local qualified beauty and holistic therapist is also a mobile therapist for our clients on holiday. I can e-mail you a list of treatments and prices in advance.
Shopping and a splendid leisure lake are only ten minutes drive away. For sport lovers there is a tennis court in the village, and within easy driving distance, reasonably priced water parks for big and little kids, riding stables, golf courses, canoeing/kayaking or leisurely cruises on the river. For fishermen, there are many local lakes and of course the magnificent River Lot. Fishing permits are available for a nominal fee. There are many grottos with amazing stalactites and stalagmites to explore, wonderful walking in unspoilt countryside, but for everyone, there is a step back in time to an age of tranquillity, peace and community life.
In this beautiful part of France you can experience the best of life in France, the passion for good food and wine, the love of music, art and a zest for life, which is manifest at all the festivals and celebrations that take place constantly throughout the summer. There are regular day and night markets with an abundance of colourful fresh local produce where you can sample and buy fois gras, chocolate covered prunes, truffles, or go wine tasting in one of the many vineyards and visit local farms to buy direct, where everything is farm reared and home grown and…delicious!
