Farmhouse Cottage with heated pool in Aquitaine Southwest France
Lalinde, between Bergerac and Sarlat, in the Dordogne
3 bedrooms, sleeps up to 8 people
La Maison Rouge
Our house lies in fifteen acres of woods and meadows, surrounded by nothing except peace and beauty, in an area that is made for walking and cycling, unwinding and dawdling. The cottage is on one side of the main house directly in front of the swimming pool and the grounds are yours to relax in and enjoy. We are 3 minutes from the pretty market town of Lalinde on one of the loveliest stretches of the Dordogne river and a 12 mile drive from Bergerac, the vineyards and the airport. Sarlat is 30 miles from here.
Lalinde has a range of shops, restaurants and a weekly Thursday morning market and you can find other restaurants or a market going on somewhere every day in the surrounding villages. For those who enjoy wine, history or simply quality of life, there is much to see here. If you like shopping, flea-markets (brocante) or jazz concerts, canoeing or just wandering around a lovely riverside town, then you'll love Bergerac. The Château des Merles Golf Club has an excellent 9-hole golf course, 10 minutes away. We are discreetly on hand if there is anything you need to know.
The main room on the ground floor is cool and relaxing, opens onto a terrace and the pool, is comfortably furnished with sofas and armchairs and has television, a hi-fi system and a dining table. The kitchen leading off the main room is equipped with an oven and hob, microwave, washing machine and fridge, coffee maker and toaster. Glasses, plates and stores are kept in an armoire.
Upstairs are two double bedrooms and a single bedroom. One of the double rooms has an en suite shower room and an outside terrace with stairs leading down to the pool. The other two bedrooms share another bathroom and separate wc. The cottage is centrally heated throughout and has WiFi Internet connection.
Lalinde and Mauzac, both about a 5 minute drive, have tennis courts and you can hire bikes and canoes in Lalinde. The market in Sainte Alvère is every Monday morning (the main truffle market), when you can also find a variety of fresh local produce, farm cheeses and often, flowers and wine. Bergerac has an organic market every Tuesday and another huge one on Saturday mornings.
Lalinde lies on the border of the Black and the Purple areas of the Perigord regions within the Dordogne. In other words, it is surrounded by oak forests and some of the most renowned vineyards in the world. It is also in the heart of the Dordogne valley, known for its thousand and one castles, medieval fortresses, its bastides, the prehistoric caves of Cro-magnon man and troglodytes, its honey coloured villages and markets, sunflowers, tobacco barns and maize fields, and friendly people. The limestone cliffs and gently rolling hills offer endless opportunities for the artist, the photographer, the hiker, the fisherman or the cyclist, and the foie gras and other duck specialties, truffles and walnuts of the region make this a paradise for those who love to eat well.
