Holiday Homes In France
Beautiful Country House Bed and Breakfast with pool
Meilhan sur Garonne, 45 minutes from Bordeaux, in the Lot et Garonne
3 double bedrooms. Dinner available on request.
La Maison Noble
The house dates from 1782 and sits high above the River Garonne with wonderful panoramic views of the river valley. We have combined the influences of our French and American backgrounds into the house and the garden, to make it as pleasing and comfortable as possible and look forward to welcoming you here.
Meilhan is our local village, complete with church, shops and restaurants, about 15 km from the market town of Marmande, 45 minutes from Bordeaux. The village is medieval in origin and in 1254 was for a time, the home of Henry III of England, then later, the Black Prince. There is an excellent restaurant 200 metres from the house.
All the rooms in the house have fireplaces and are individually decorated and furnished with antiques. There is a large breakfast room and a library with books, television and internet connection to relax in, listen to some music or watch a movie on our home cinema system. The sitting room has a lovely fireplace to sit in front of during the Autumn months and the park is yours to enjoy with secluded places to sit quietly and contemplate the view. The swimming pool has poolside furniture and sunbeds. Occasionally, our dog and three cats may join you.
The Queens Room is large and classical, decorated in warm reds and white with a double bed or twin beds, a big fireplace and a private bathroom.
The Blue Room has a double bed, bedside tables with lamps, a fireplace and chairs.
The Garden Room is decorated in pure white with touches of rose and green and can have either a double bed or twin beds.
These two rooms share a large bathroom and can be taken together as a suite. Both rooms are suitable for those with reduced mobility. The bathroom has a shower specially designed to allow wheelchair access with a bench and the washbasins and wc have also been designed to suit.
Meilhan has tennis courts that are open to everyone and there are riding stables 5 km from here. Marmande has a golf course and there is fishing in the river and canal just below the house or at a nearby lake. Cruises are available on the canal that take either a few hours or a full day and include lunch or dinner. There are canoe hire bases too.
On the second Sunday of September, Meilhan holds a huge medieval festival that the whole village participates in, dressed in costume. La Réole is a little town on the river and our American family would not miss the Sunday market for anything when they come over to stay.
Worth the 40 minute drive is Nérac, an appealing historic town on the River Baise at the edge of the Buzet vineyards, on the way to Condom. Poudenas, not far from there, has a very good restaurant.
Saint Emilion is not only known for fine wines but is a lovely village in its own right. Visits to some of the vineyards can be arranged there. The beaches at Arcachon (famous for oysters) curve round to Cap Ferret on the Atlantic side and are popular for sailing and other water sports.
